Comedy - let's share a laugh

sorry guess the clip was blocked - just a bit John Mulaney did on SNL tv here. His grandfather was born in 1902 and was too old for WWII - "too old for the oldest thing that ever happened" he says. Aristophones eh? Hate to break it to you but he didn't allow video tapping at the performances - be a hard clip to find; and I hear he is a stickler for demanding take downs on YouTube - lol.

We had BBC shows on our public broadcast (PBS) tv channels here. Idk, I used to laugh at "Are You Being Served" - it was all reruns by the time we got it here.

The vast majority of our external programming for both radio and tv came from England until the 80s when the market structures behind it (even including where book publishings were sourced) was finally deregulated. What we saw from America was limited, but was for the most part the cream of productions.

The Meaning of Life - Fred Dagg

A creation of New Zealand born John Clarke who had a brilliant mind for observation and satire.
absolutely in stitches listening to that !! "I've seen a few existentialist, I've been to funerals" - and so many more! absolutely genius! I mean this wins the thread. I thought I had a good one for you but, not close to this. If I had this when I was in HS and having to learn the different movements, I would have understood them soooo much better.

Well, maybe I can get second place with this one:

....Granny!

The causes of WWI was a major area of study for me in Modern History during my high school senior years and can very much appreciate the comedic gold of that sketch. Sad truth is that it is the sad truth of it all, incompetence and ego were the main causes. Granny was always quite dissapointed in her boys.

After John Clarke retired the Fred Dagg character he went on to create with his long time friend Bryan Dawe a weekly political satire piece centred around the events of that week. John was brilliant at doing impersonations of people, without ever changing his looks or delivery style, which does seem counter intuitive but worked so well for his style. As you explore his legacy a lot may seem obscure due to its basis in (then) current local events, but I'm sure you'll recognise and enjoy the types of characters he cuts into and apart with such ease and brilliance.

I should also give an honourable mention to the interviewer, Robin Williams. He has for decades hosted the premier science communication program here called "The Science Show" on ABC radio, for which this sketch was commissioned and featured as a bit of fun.
