1. Just as relationships ought to not be compared to another, same applies to break ups.
2. "Normal" is relative, and often tends to lead to an erroneous conclusion.

At any rate, are you asking this because it’s an online relationship? Anything you put time and energy into is going to sting when it ends. Just because their physical presence isn’t felt doesn’t mean that emotions and feelings can’t become deep and complicated. So yes, it’s not uncommon to feel like a “normal” breakup. Regardless of the dynamic.
I rarely ever have any relationship last more than 6 months but the fact there was a relationship means there are feelings involved. Those same feelings mean, when the time comes to move on, there is always a period where I miss him.
So, I don't believe its a 'time thing'. I believe its the attraction that got you together in the first place that causes you to 'miss that person'.
