Period Dramas....

Soooooooo I am huge into period dramas, no matter if it is film or television, but I want to start a thread to talk about our favorite..... No 12 year old boy posts about menstruation either....

The BBC series of 'Bleak house' and 'Pride and Prejudice'. Gillan Anderson's performance in 'Bleak House' as Lady Dedlock is hauntingly brilliant. As far as period drama movies go, then anything by Jane Campion is a must watch, two of my favourites being 'The Piano' and 'Bright Star'. 'House of Mirth' is another good one. I loved the book, which usually means I hate the film, but not in this case. I thought it was wonderful.

I don't know if you've heard of it, but another series that I've just finshed watching is 'Taboo'. I really enjoyed it. It's set in England in the early 1800's, towards the end of the American war for independence. It's quite dark and atmospheric, and raises issues like slavery and the role of the East India Company and the Crown in that. It's got Tom Hardy in it and also Oona Chaplin (Robb Stark' wife in GoT) Actually, when watching it with my friends, we'd play 'spot the GoT's'....there's loads of them in it!!

Awesome sauce!! I'm pretty sure that the BBC have just commisioned a second series, but that won't be aired until next year, so you've got loads of time to catch up

Okay, so I watched the first episode of 'Harlots' last night. I'm going to give the second episode a go, but I don't think I'm going to get on with it. I think I would have preferred it if it had a more gritty/realistic portrayal of the subject. To me, it veered more into spoof territoy at times. Also, I found the choice of music odd.....to the point of vexing. Just my thoughts.
