No they don’t need to be. But if you completely change a well established character you have to accept that some may not like that.
Ya that's very true. Evolving the character is always worth doing. I agree with you, Im not just gonna dislike a character because it's not what I know them to be. Sometimes new interpretations just suck

And like, new interpretations throughout comic book history have been really good and also really sucked. Unrelated to their appearances in movies
