I do cook mine that way, and dried ones.. marinate them dry them then sautee.Try dried mushrooms in a soup. Totally different animal. Or try mushrooms diced and cooked (caramelized) completely.
Chop up a bunch of mushrooms, toast them dry in a pan, then add your oil and fry them until caramelized--this is where you get the flavor so good, you'll forget about the texture.
