I saw that "Would you give your last Rolo" thread and it made me think of something I have never shared, other than..... My last Rolo.
I am like Gandalf, I have many names. My friends call me Deeks, or T. Old colleagues still call me Crimson. De Sik (The Goatee in English) is less common but it is still used by some people. And for as long as I can rember my sister calls me Thom Vissekom (Fishbowl). The reason why she does that is an entire different story, which probably will turn into a spin-off.
A lesser known name is Rolo... 2 good friends came up with that one day. And after wondering for a couple of months why they called me that, I recently discovered it has to do with a commercial we had here in the Netherlands for the Rolo chocolates.
A boy is in the zoo with his last Rolo, he pretends to share this with a young elephant and it comes to him. Just before the elephant can reach the Rolo with his trunk, the boy quickly eats it. Yelling "Na na na na" at the young, now scared for life, elephant.
Years later that boy became a man. Still eating Rolos and a lot fatter he attends a circus parade when he feels someone tapping his shoulder. He looks back, only to be knocked out by the trunk of the now fully grown baby elephant.
When my friends told me, Rolo, had to do with that commercial it did not get it.... At all. Untill one friends said.
"Don't you see the trunk on that elephant?"
That was when I realised, that some people (unlike the elephant) will never grow up.
Grown up or not, I love my friends either way.
