Tim Curry has died at the age of 80.

Curry was one of those actors who could completely take over a role. He became a cult icon as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but his career stretched across film, television, theatre and voice acting for more than five decades.

He was equally memorable as Wadsworth in Clue, Pennywise in Stephen King’s It, Rooster in Annie and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island. His distinctive voice also made him a familiar presence in animation and video games.

Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012 that left him using a wheelchair and significantly reduced his on-screen work, although he continued making appearances and doing voice work in the years that followed.

Depending on your generation, you probably knew Tim Curry from something completely different, but chances are you knew that unmistakable voice and presence.

Rest in peace to one of the most distinctive performers of his generation.
