Helloooooo! I come home in a few days but I found some time to give an update as to how the races went.

The first race was on Saturday. It was 13 miles (21k kilometers) combined with 30 obstacles and 1066 meter elevation gain.

Completed in six and a half hours, top 40 percentile. Not amazing but a finish is a finish lol.

The second race was on Sunday! It was 7 miles (10k kilometers) combined with 25 obstacles and 430 meters in elevation gain.

Completed in 2 hours and 20 minutes, top 19 percentile. Better but there was still room to improve.

The third and final race was directly after the second, I didn’t get much rest admittedly. It was 3 miles long (5k kilometers) with 20 obstacles and 200 meters in elevation gain.

Completed in 1 hour and 30 minutes, top 30 percentile. Not the greatest but I was absolutely gassed after the prior two races lol.

Weather overall was partly cloudy, mostly sunny with an average temperature of 82 Fahrenheit or 27.7 Celsius.

Overall this was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. The combination of heat, humidity, elevation gain and distance ran really pushed my body past any limit that I’ve previously experienced. But I’m coming home with three completion medals, a trifecta medal, a couple of sunburns and one qualification for the World Championship in Athens.

Thanks for being with me on this journey this far. I’ll see you guys soon!

Haven’t been about to catch up with you, but really pleased to read this. Fantastic achievement!

October is coming up and I reckon it's time to re-attempt that previous challenge of running 100 miles for the month. I encourage you to give it a try! Maybe not the whole 100 miles for the month but definitely a little bit every day. We can keeps tabs on each other! I think it could be a fun way to stay disciplined and to stay in shape. Shoot me a reply if anyone's interested

Doing it in August is very different to October...!!

Challenge accepted. It's difficult remaining consistent with runs so the accountability and competitiveness will surely help with performance. Come the end of the first week of October, I'll be sure to upload my results: miles ran and time, plus barriers and progress for each end week of October. The upcoming month will be difficult, nevertheless we shall persevere. good luck to you and for others that will join as well.
Haha, we are but flesh and blood Sunshine. We shall embrace discomfort.

I missed a run on October 1st because I may or may not have been hungover. But from as of today, October 8th, the current distance stands at 28.46 miles (45.80 km) at and average pace of 8:38.

23.72 miles this past week. 52.18 miles (83.97km) total so far.

I am soon to turn 67. I do not workout. I was an automotive technician for 45 years before retirement that helped to keep in decent shape. I also have lots of interests and hobbies that keep me busy and on the go around the house, as well as maintaining the house and yard. I do travel with a camping trailer and have 2 vehicles that I still work on when needed and that is a workout sometimes as well. That is all the exercise I do. I have noticed (and so has my doctor) arthritis rearing up in my lower back, and higher blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and am on medication for both. I know I can do better and am wondering if something as simple as dumbbells or other free-weights would do any good, and I know I need to get out and walk. I would rather not join a gym. Any words of wisdom...

Hi,

Delayed response here!
Reaching out for advice is a great step and shows how important improving your health is to you.

Having plenty of hobbies and interests to keep you busy is brilliant. Combining physical activity with something that’s already part of your day (eg. working on vehicles), is a great starting point.
Joining a gym certainly isn’t the be-all and end-all of getting fit.
Walking can do wonders for your health. Have you thought anbout trying any of the following? Opt for stairs, when you’d otherwise take a lift. Walk somewhere instead of taking the car (within reason). Do you have a garden, or allotment? Mowing the lawn, digging, watering plants, can all be a decent workout.
Introducing regular walks at a park, to the shops, up and down your garden, cross-country, whatever, can be a huge benefit. You don’t need to track your distance or have a fancy watch/app. Stick a playlist on and walk until you feel like stopping.

There are some really basic 15 minute workouts on YouTube, which are great to fit into your day as and when you can.
I included (and still do) dumbbells in my workouts, so to answer your question, yes, something as simple as dumbbells will do good.

In addition to the above, I strongly believe tracking calorie intake is a good idea. Calculating how many calories you’re consuming vs how many you’re burning off is an integral part of losing weight. Even if you’re not looking to lose weight, but want to improve overall health, having an overview of what you consume in a day is really helpful. Sometimes we become complacent as to how many sugary drinks/snacks/other junk we’re consuming, until we’re jotting it all down.
It’s not just about how many calories we’re consuming, but the sort of foods we’re getting those calories from. It sounds like basics, but carbohydrates, protein, fruit and vegetables, dairy (alternatives) and healthy fats are essential in ensuring we have a healthy and balanced diet.
Also, drink lots of water. Just woke up? Water. Bored? Water. Peckish? Water first.

Exercise is fantastic, but if your diet consists of, well, crap, then you’re not likely to see the progress you hope for.

Hopefully this helps motivate you a little. Albeit I am younger, a few years ago my health wasn’t in the best place. Following the above, I lost 17kg (37.5ish lbs) over the course of 12 months. This put me back into a healthy weight range. Lowered my blood pressure (avg. now 100/65) and reduced my resting heart rate (avg. now 54-58 bpm).

Remember, it’s not a quick fix. It’s about creating a new lifestyle and that takes time. Best of luck.

I recently got back into jogging after being hit hard by seasonal depression so that I can lose my tummy fat that I gained over Christmas  and maybe even more than that
Currently I do 2.5 mile jogs which usually go alright but I have to make sure I don't jog too fast early in the run or else I won't be able to complete my jog
Also hoping to go back to the gym, I went to the gym for the first time last summer and it was an amazing experience, I hope to do the same again so that I can train my muscles again:D

Recently, I made some changes to my daily supplements, but I have been noticing some negative effects on my skin, energy levels, mood, and sleep in the past few weeks. It's difficult to determine whether these changes in my supplements are solely responsible for these issues, or if other stressful events in my life are contributing as well.
To address this, I plan to make adjustments to both my supplements and lifestyle in the upcoming months. This will involve a trial-and-error approach to identify any notable improvements. I will provide updates on any significant changes I observe during this process.
No one is quite sure why but taking high-doses of vitamin B6 and B12 (more than 5 mg to 10 mg per week) has been shown to have a negative impact on the skin. So, this is the first place I'll be looking to make changes.

Total Omega 3 Fatty Acids 300 mg
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) 180 mg
DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) 120 mg

Myo-inositol 1 x 4g daily

In summary, my recent supplements generally include higher quantities of several vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin D, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Magnesium, Copper, Selenium, and Chromium. However, there's a decrease in Vitamin A and Calcium.

I'm temporarily simplifying my supplements, focusing on spearmint tea, omega-3, and 8mg myo-inositol daily, to explore their potential benefits on hormone balance and antioxidants.

Additionally, I'll enhance my diet with more fruits and vegetables while reducing refined sugar intake and increasing overall water consumption.

I'll assess and share my progress in 3-4 weeks.
