WTF?! (Strange But True Facts)

And finally from my state. An old law from the late 1800's still on the books in Baltimore makes it illegal to wear short sleeves in public . Unless at the Baltimore Zoo.

Minnesota has a small bit of territory north of the 49th parallel (only American territory north of it except Alaska) that is not connected by land the rest of the country or even the state. It is separated by a lake, access is either by crossing this lake or through Canada. This was due to inaccurate maps being used at the time of border negotiations.

I can definitely tell you are from that part of the U.S lol . We actually have 4 or 5 accents in Maryland and apparently I speak with a slightly Western Maryland one. Not were I was born but moved there as a kid and lived there a long time. People from Baltimore and E. Shore have commented on it. I always remind them that to anyone North of Southern PA We all sound country !

Did you know that...

John Tyler, who was born in 1790 and was the 10th p.resident of the United States, has two grandchildren who are both still alive today.

Not just great-great grandchildren, or even great grandchildren, but the children of one of his sons.

How?

The Tyler men believed in having children late in life! P.resident John Tyler married a much younger woman after his wife died, and in 1853 (at the age of 63) he fathered Lyon Gardiner Tyler. Lyon, his son, also married again after his wife died, and fathered two children in the 1920's when he was in his 70's. Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Jr. was born in 1924, and Harrison Ruffin Tyler was born in 1928. Both of these men, direct grandchildren of the 10th US p.resident, are alive and well today.

If you're counting, that is a 228 year span encompassing only 3 generations.

EDIT: that is a 228 year span AND STILL COUNTING encompassing only 3 generations

Thanks for this, I like this story bro! :)

Planning on wearing hot pink hot pants on your backpacking trip to Australia? Think again. Take note of these 18 weird Australian laws that still exist today in some states - although the likelihood of you being arrested for breaking any of them is very unlikely!

1. It is illegal to wear hot pink pants after midday on a Sunday

2. It is illegal to walk on the right hand side of a footpath

3. Taxi cabs are required to carry a bale of hay in the trunk

4. Bars are required to stable, water and feed the horses of their patrons

5. You must have a neck to knee swimsuit in order to swim at Brighton Beach (Melbourne)

6. The Summary Offences Act of 1966 deems it illegal to be heard by someone singing an obscene song. Does that include Taylor Swift? Oops...

7. It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as these items are the tools of a cat burglar

8. Only licensed electricians may change a light bulb

9. It is illegal to be drunk in a pub

10. It is illegal to read someone's tarot or give them a psychic reading as these are forms of witchcraft

11. Having an article of disguise without a lawful excuse is illegal

12. In the Gold Coast, it is illegal for women to wear a bikini whose material exceeds six square inches. Good bye Brazilian bikini bottoms!

13. It is illegal to leave your car keys inside an unattended vehicle

14. If advertising a lost or stolen item, you must include the caption "no questions will be asked." So does that mean that theives can get away with stolen goods?

15. Life sentences cannot exceed 25 years. Are we really that laid back?

16. If a urinal is not readily available, it is legal to urinate on the rear left tyre of your vehicle

17. It is illegal to dress up as Robin and Batman

18. In Melbourne, it is against the law to vacuum between 10pm and 7am during weekdays, and 10pm and 9am during weekends. Yep. We like our sleep.

I left out 19. It's since changed. :)

Contrary to popular belief Cleopatra was actually not Egyptian, she was the last of the Greek-speaking Macedonian dynasty that ruled Egypt after its conquest by Alexander the Great. She did commit suicide but likely not by snake bite as it was extremely painful and not always lethal.

A follow-up on Cleopatra that really puts time into perspective: despite having died in 30 BC, Cleopatra actually lived much closer in time to all of us today than she did to the building of the pyramids, the earliest of which was completed c. 2611 BC. THAT is difficult for me to even wrap my head around.

Well you def have a beautiful voice!! We were talking about Leann Rimes version of "Blue" in chat earlier. Country music sadly has changed over the years. I can still remember how romantic "I can love you that" "strawberry wine" and "I swear" was. One of my semi new favs is "Stay". You can just feel the passion in their singing. With soul behind singing..its pointless
LeAnn Rimes version of Blue is incredible for a couple reasons: the way she uncannily sounds like Patsy Cline while singing it, and even more so, the fact that she was what, 13 or 14 when she recorded it? Blows me away. Have you ever heard her duet with Eddy Arnold on his classic song Cattle Call? Her yodel gives me chills. So good!
