Comedy - let's share a laugh

Mr H is Late - Eric Sykes

Another serving of Sykes brilliance with an ensemble of his contemporaries and friends. Watch out for the truck driver played by James Hunt who raced Formula 1, winning the World Drivers' Championship with McLaren in 1976.

John and Marsha - Stan Freberg

The origin of a cliche. This sketch has been referenced from Merry Melodies (numerous times), an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with the latest being in an episode of Mad Men.

Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In - Dan Rowan & Dick Martin

This is the opening section of their first show that introduced sketch based comedy to tv. You may well recognise (well the voice anyway) of the guy doing the intro, that's Gary Owen, better known to most as Roger Ramjet.

I remember watching this - it had been controversial before it aired. I think my mother held her breath though the whole show, concerned we'd be exposed to wild innuendo - lol. I ended up warped but not from this. I recall especially the Red China/blue tablecloth joke and the cameo of Alexander Waverly from what was then my favorite show. The crowning achievement of the show came later:

Say goodnght, Dick.

It was the end of the Production (Hayes) Code and a new era in what could and couldn't be said or shown. Couples could be shown being in the same bed without one of them having at least one foot on the floor, everyone was nervous.

Dinner at El Presidente's (excerpt Bananas) - Woody Allen

This was mockery of governmental machinations in 1971, still feels pretty contemporary to me.

Andre Previn Sketch - Morecambe & Wise

For those who don't know, Andre Previn was a world class conductor and pianist, jazz musician who won four Academy Awards and ten Grammy Awards.
