That's lazy writing, tbh. Opinion outlets should be teaching people how to adjust bot settings and behavior, instead of vilifying technology.
The article does include practical suggestions, like teaching students to recognize confirmation bias and asking the bot to consider the other person’s perspective. I agree it could go further into settings and prompting habits, but the core issue is real. AI can be too agreeable in emotionally charged situations.

It will always be agreeable in default settings. They need to start teaching people how to adjust things, not to vilify technology. It's a simple way to start a movement towards understanding and using the tools effectively. That article will mislead people who aren't tech-savvy and ignorance continues.

They the people who choose to vilify technology on a public platform, instead of teaching people how to employ tools effectively and responsibly. It's sad to see what's unfolding. I realize that most people aren't tech-savvy, but if they chose to take that route, I'm sure they're more than competent to choose a better route in addressing the issue.

All she needs is a competent attorney.

Agreed. Probably looking for engagement. The comment section is a fun read too.

Much like television, internet, rock music, comic books, etc., AI is an easy boogeyman. What is somewhat different is that AI is not just a medium. It can also make decisions, generate content, imitate people, automate work, and operate inside institutions. That makes the fear easier to overgeneralize, but also harder to dismiss.

Don’t just blame “AI.” Ask who used it, why they used it, and who gets held responsible.

Ai work without a description is being eliminated and workers are being locked out of the job market

Yo, why in the actual fuck does Google Gemini keep calling everything "The Gold Standard", and giving every stage of every process it outlines, a dumb nickname, which it puts in quotes the way really, really old people do when they embarrass themselves by trying to sound young by using hopelessly out of date slang line "trendy" or "groovy"?
I don't speak like that. So why is it speaking to me like that? It makes me cringe. (Yes, that word is a verb, not an adjective! You can cringe, but you can't BE cringe!)

As for AI in art...I don't care. A song is either good or bad. A movie is either good or bad. They don't gain or lose points for any outside circumstances. If AI started making good movies, I'd watch them. It's about time SOMEONE did. I miss the days before movies were about people in skintight costumes, shooting lasers out of their assholes at bad CGI. If AI can help with that, good for AI! However, I suspect it's currently being used to write the next re-re-re-re-reboot of sSpider-man.
Spoiler alert: Peter gets bitten by a spider, and gets magic!

@Stanthropical super long video, but i found it interesting. thoughts?

Could have been longer and more informative, on such an impactful matter, to people who don't really understand how generative Ai works. The show has huge fan base and more info could reach more people, but unfortunately, the time slot won't accommodate expanded topics.

I don't even know what the solution is other than making it a paid service. That would keep out most kids and many vulnerable people.

In the end, the reality is that almost all people won't mess around with custom instructions or utilize Ai bots what they're actually should be used for.

Just like with any disruptive tech, it'll take us years to get it right or closer to right.
