Literature Freyas' all about books thread.

Hello I consider myself a bit of a book worm. I read mainly science fiction more specifically space opera. I like to read books in a series as I find it gives more to the story arc if it’s written over multiple novels. So my favourite authors are (in no particular order lol)
Alastair Reynolds
Peter F Hamilton
Neal Asher
James S A Corey
Arthur C Clarke
Martha wells
Hugh howey
Ann leckie
I’m sure there are more but they are the main ones I can remember. I’m currently nearing the end of book 2 of the silo trilogy by Hugh howey. It’s a bit off the normal track for me because although it’s science fiction it’s not space opera at all. This next few months is going to be superb for sci-fi readers as the first 4 authors in my list are releasing books between may and august. Some are the start of new series, some are completion of a series (James S A Corey’s expanse series is coming to a close at book 9. And I’ve been an avid reader of them since There inception. Some are the continuation of a series like book 5 of the highly regarded revelation space series by Alastair Reynolds being released called inhibitor phase. Now this is my most eagerly awaited release as the last book in the series was released over 10yrs ago now. Anyway so that’s me and my reading habits except one question for you all. Do any of you listen to audio books as a replacement to a hard paper copy? Do you think that audiobooks don’t have the same effect as reading a physical book? I’m an avid fan of them and have almost completely converted from physical books to audiobooks. But some people i hear think that a physical book is still better by far? Where do you stand?

:D
This gave me a good chuckle

I prefer paper. Decoded by my brain with the help of my eyes. Better yet, read aloud. Oh bliss! (but I understand this is a luxury)

[ post script ]the above isn't meant to be snarky or judgmental in anyway either...before I hurt feelings without meaning too. I literally just saw the sketch 20 minutes ago, before seeing this thread. And thought it appropriate. And it made me laugh...so I hope it will make you laugh too.

Audiobooks are very pleasant ways to enjoy a good narrative too. Just not my preference.

I tried audio books but it's not good for me because I can't concentrate on the content. I love science fiction but I'm more into hard science or tech.or near future Hamilton writes great but it's the fantasy parts I don't like. I enjoyed Banks' culture' more. My favourite genre is time travel .

Book question: What do you do with books you can't sell, will never read again, and don't have someone to give to? Any book artists among us?

I personally have never listened to an audio book.
I found out through doing languages at school that I take information in the best by reading, a lot better than hearing audio.
I just like the feel of a book in my hands too.

Reading "Les Grands Déserts Américains" which translates to "The Great American Deserts".
