Fairy Tales

Ever since I was young
I dreamed to be trapped in the highest tower
It wasn’t a Prince or a shining knight I wanted
But a Dragon, wise and fearsome
to keep me safe and locked somewhere
far, far, away

In search I went
up the hills, up windy roads
still walking despite it being hot or cold
And along the road I found myself snatched
completely entrapped
The one I’ve been waiting for
My one true match

Deep in a cave, littered with gold and jewels
Scriptures and sayings taped on the walls
You speak in tongues
How you made my knees buckle, love
You dreamed to expand your wings
and soar the skies
“I want to see what the world has to offer me, my love."

Further and further you strayed
Finding new treasures and whatchamacallit things
Until slowly you went astray
The cave became colder
Anxiety gnawed me
And uncertainty hugged me
but oh how excited you were
and how I didn’t understand
threatening, “If you don’t stay, I’ll kill you! With my own bare hands!”

A frantic girl, foolish and naive
In a blind rage I left and stuck to my pride
I sat on a grassy hill, staring up at the sun
A stubborn girl, soon guilt ridden and oh-
oh how dumb
The sky rained of stars, and they reminded me of your eyes
when you would excitedly explain about who knows what
Did I ever bother, I wonder
Was there ever a time I mentioned to ask “why?”

No no
Thats not the question I wanted to ask
It should have been,
And oh how I should have asked it sooner,
swallowing the anxiety and shame
And forgetting the foolish thoughts floating
inside of my brain

“Would you allow me, please?
To fly beside you as you search for treasures you oh so happily seek?”

I jumped off that hill
Glided through the sea
The sharp breeze stinging my cheeks
A clumsy landing as I tripped and slid on the rough, cold floor

Oh but what a fool
How could I not see?
That all along,
the dragon in this story
was actually me

What horror have I done?
I kept you locked and chained
And you’ve finally had enough
Where ever you are
Can you hear it?
Can you hear my screams?
When will this agony ever cease?
Can you feel it?
Can you see your foggy breath?
When will I stop being so restless?

Fairy tales exist
And I got mine
Locked up in a cave in the highest mountain
That no one can climb
Where no Knights or Prince Charmings dare to ride
And if they trespass, they meet their doom
Everything I touch will crumble
As did you

There is a burning in my throat
One that aches and throbs
There are claw marks on everything
Anything that you touched
There are a few on me
The biggest is inside my ribcage
One that can’t be seen

I will remain
In the same cave with nothing unchanged
I will wait millennium’s for your return
For now I will dream about the treasures you may bring
and about the foolish little facts that you may speak

Forgive me in advance
If i ever forget your voice,
your face, your name, your laugh
Let this dragon dream her life away
Ill stare out at the horizon waiting for your return
And not all fairy tales are meant to be happy
Im just glad yours inter-lapped with mine

But my dear adventurer
there was a place
there was a point
there was a time
when it was just
You and I

Car Ride

Little late night drive back from work
Radio playing songs Ive already heard
humming along to the rhythm of the night
Street lights and my glimmering eyes

Humming

Mumbling

Whispering

Shouting

Radio playing songs I’ve already heard
bawling from singing lyrics that burned
Street lights and tearful eyes
Stinging cheeks from the cold and lonesome nights
