I do like taking photography of abandoned churches..regardless of what you believe ..I think buildings that have been deserted regardless of that issue have a way of showing silent history

Yeah I think it was Mrs garrison who said it...it was like a 2 parter where she becomes and atheist...and also Cartman freezes himself so he skip into the future to buy a Nintendo Wii lol gotta love south park

Religion (whether scoffed at or not)..is the foundation for most moral codes and principles of humanity. People focus only on the bad actions of select individuals, to judge Christianity harshly.

But the fact is= things like beastility even, wasn't condemned, until under the Old Testament commandments and laws

No lying, killing, stealing, adultery, etc also began there

So the World without those founding principles would have been what exactly? Without them now...would be what?

Really? You get your morals from a book that allows keeping and beating slaves, allows a man to slay his wife if she's not a virgin, then to get virgins for himself. Where kids tease a bald man who prays to god for help and then are mauled to death by bears. Where stoning, torture, murder, bigotry, homophobia, incest, and chauvinism were practiced and accepted. But having a tattoo, wearing blended fabrics, and eating shellfish are egregious sins against god condemning one to hell.

This is your 'go to' book for your moral beliefs?

Answer- it's the world in which we live in today, where laws against lying, killing, stealing, adultery, etc. are broken by millions without even thinking about it. A world where thousands of people will die today despite all the prayers said to keep them alive.

Ambulances should take religious people to churches for treatment thru prayers, allowing doctors more time to save the lives of the rest of the people who believe in science, medicine, and man's knowledge.

Prayer is like masturbation... it only feels good to the person doing it and does nothing to the person they are thinking of!!

I miss the days when we had a lot of Gods to choose from.
Poseidon is a personal fave but there was competition for their market-share, Orion, Zeus, Aires, Ymir, Bel, Guan Gong.. etc 100's
But slowly, the big players have forced the little ones out of business.
Like all business, their ideal is a monopoly.

Its just business, schwetthardt.. just business.

Now, i have my own opinion(s) about religions but, i wish not to start to fight or antagonize anyone.
I am however...asking a simple question; Could you live in a world without religion?.

sub question: wouldn't you rather want to live in a world where rationality, science, logic
you know, common sense would reign?

You are suggesting a world where Science would be impossible, where people didn't question why they exist, what their purpose is and what is right or wrong, where they didn't pose theories that they would try to prove or disprove. Religions and Science exist because we are human. People try to make a religion out of Science, rationality and logic, but they are just subjects or disciplines that humans use to put their lives in perspective. Science is often treated as a religion and scientific dogma has stalled scientific progress for centuries. There is nothing sacred about Science.:p

There is plenty of room for Religion and for Science. They are not opposed. Religions change as evidence alters our beliefs or we become dissatisfied with the effects of those beliefs on our lives. Some of our top scientists and critical thinkers were fervently religious.

sigh... or maybe we have new Gods and call them El Comandante or Prime Minister ... and have new religions, and call them Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, Fascism and so forth.

You are simply espousing your religious views. The truth is that a vast amount of our current laws are based on religious morality and religious morality has more impact on peoples actions than criminal statutes. There are very few religions that suggest that we should rely exclusively on prayer to achieve our goals, but prayer does work. People who pray tend to have better outcomes than people who don't, whether through Divine intervention, the focus of our minds or some type of placebo effect.

Religion is outdated, disproven fantasy. If you seriously believe the crap then you need lessons in evolution, physics and common sense. Religion is a blight on the progress of the world.

I live without religion everyday. I think that religion has no place in the modern world. Like Venus mentioned earlier, I think that religion had its place 100s of years ago. It helped the world to develop a set of morals and laws. Its extremely outdated and needs to go imo. Most religions condone blatant racism, sexism, genocide, rape, and murder of those who think differently than you. If you look at Christianity and America for example, the Bible was used to condone and encourage slavery, which is also why slavery went on for as long as it did. Even after slavery was abolished, The Bible was still used to condone the treatment of African Americans and other minorities as second class citizens and deny them the basic human rights that the whites had. It was used to condone the sexist treatment of women and deny them the same rights as men. Religion has no place in todays world
No, you live in a world where religion has had an immense impact on our society. The world has no set of morals and laws. It has many sets of morals and laws, all based on the predominant religions. What determines if slavery is right or wrong? Is it our economic system? Is slavery wrong in a Capitalistic framework? In a Communistic one? The Pope has decreed that slavery is wrong, so it is in that religious framework. Your moral views are a result of your background and development, your family and friends, the places you have lived, the education you received, the forums you participated in:rolleyes:.

Religion and religious dogma have been used by people to condone any number of sins, so have economic and political theories and practices:eek:.

Religious beliefs are difficult to prove or disprove and harder to dispel. Most religious beliefs evolve over time, based on Science and exposure to other religions and cultures. Much of our Science is based on religious beliefs and our attempts to prove or disprove them. Entrenched beliefs, whether religious or scientific have stalled scientific progress for ages. As for the progress of the world? We are rapidly approaching extinction and it has more to do with Science and Economics than religious beliefs.

Where is this world ?!

To answer your question, yes, I could absolutely live in a world like that.

Religions? Why are there religions? If god were truly real there would be only 1 religion. Right?

You said, "Most religious beliefs evolve over time, based on Science". Then almost in the same breath you said, "Much of our Science is based on religious beliefs" Well which is it? Or is it whichever one fits the story better at the time? How convenient it must be to be non-committal !!

So you believe that before Noah and his magic zoo boat that sunlight never refracted through raindrops making rainbows? That god made rainbows as a promise he will never drown humanity again? Which one of your statements would you use to explain both?

I could, but it seems that a lot of other people need some sort of Santa Claus to keep in line. No, morality does not come from god or religion, gods were invented to keep people in line. Every religion, without exception, preaches love and understanding for the faithful and death, oppression and doom for the unfaithful. And although many claim to base their morality on their religion, in fact, they pick and chose the bits from the holy book to support their morality. Some don't work on Saturday because the bible says so, yet others don't work on Sunday because the bible says so. Whatever you believe, there is always a quote in the bible to support your view.
