The point of Singularity is when they will cross over. Man into Machines and Machines into Man.
Many feel I would never get a mechanical part in me. However, just like the movie Matrix is a USB slot that could download entire learning of any topic in one’s brain, it would then not hold back people from not getting a USB slot. I understand the example is quite crazy, however, simpler forms like better eyes, better heart, better kidney in transplant is already happening.
Now comes to the topic of machines, consciousness is divided broadly into subparts
a) Awareness – Creation or exploring of various aspects, whether it is about an action you did in the past, or a goal you have to achieve. And this aspect is getting closer day by day
b) Memory – This is about both remembering and same time developing new memories, this task is almost over
c) Learning – AI was recently given all sorts of details on various painters, their styles of painting, their work, the colors the used, etc. Then AI was also shown millions of Images. It drew on its own a painting that is unique it is not related to anything or anyone from the images it saw. It created its own masterpiece, which incidentally got sold for quite a price. Height was it even signed it in mathematical equation its name. (attaching the painting)
d) Anticipation – ability to foresee, predict what might happen. On many levels whether stock markets, or deep-sea drilling, or infrastructure projects, navigation already is implemented. This is like Chess more or less with changing variables.
e) Subjective Experience – this is the last but the hardest challenge as currently AI eventually is limited by experiences of its maker/s and thus the limit of experience or views get limited to ones who design it – the human.
All of them are in various stages of development. However, the key is that all these Algorithms are written by humans in the end so they are a version of humanity itself. In the past couple of years, this barrier true is getting broken. Algorithms are now writing their own Algorithms. AI is making its own AI and then the possibilities of this intelligence explosion are limitless.
Recently AI defeated Poker Champions. A game of sheer perception, and Experience. There is a game called “GO”, it is 10 times more complex than Chess. AI defeated that champion. Though AI lost a debate competition as well.
Sinners or Saints, Saviours or Slaughterers only time will tell.
